PYC: "The South's Finest Yacht Club"

Pensacola Yacht Club, chartered in 1908, is a private club for members and their guests situated on 17 acres at the mouth of Chico Bayou. Enjoy the full-service restaurant and bar, banquet, and meeting rooms, and large, modern swimming pool.

The club offers breathtaking views of Pensacola Bay, a totally new marina, and a sandy beach for swimming, kayaking, and launching small boats. PYC is an exceptional venue for large racing regattas, training programs such as US Sailing's Safety at Sea Courses, and special events.

About the Race

US Sailing’s Junior Olympic Sailing Program is a nationwide series of sailing regattas for youth ages 8-18.

Junior Olympic Program Goals:

  • Engage young people in the excitement of sailing
  • Encourage young sailors to enjoy racing
  • Increase participation locally, regionally and nationally through USA Junior Olympic Festivals
  • Improve skills of young sailors through training
  • Define a path for achievement from an early age to adulthood

Three Great Classes of Boats in One Event!

Lasers - Club 420s - Optimists

All sailors will be responsible for their boats being in compliance with the class rules. The Race and/or Protest Committee may inspect or measure any equipment and/or sail at any time. Each yacht must have all safety equipment as specified in the class rules. Failure to have such equipment is grounds for disqualification from that race. NOTE: US Coast Guard Approved Lifejackets only, which depend 100% on foam for flotation, and is the appropriate size for the sailor.

Junior Olympics Sailing Facts

Each event in this family of regattas is hosted by a different club or sailing organization, but all events share a common goal: to encourage young sailors to enjoy sailing, to develop their sailing skills and become lifetime sailors. Events mix Olympic-style competition with elements of fun and learning at all levels, from beginning racers to those with Olympic aspirations. For 2018, 30 events are planned for waters in the continental United States and Hawaii and 5,000 sailors are expected to compete. Junior Olympic Sailing is coordinated by US Sailing.
